JUDAH BEN BAVA

(fl. 1st-2nd cent)
   Palestinian tanna. He was a leading sage in Jabneh, renowned for his piety. During the Hadrianic persecutions he was put to death by the Romans for ordaining five scholars, in transgression of the law forbidding ordination.
