AZULAI, HAYYIM JOSEPH DAVID

(1724-1806)

   Palestinian emissary and writer. He was born in Jerusalem. He came to be regarded as the leading scholar of his generation, and also travelled abroad as an emissary of the Jewish community in Israel. His Maagal Tov is a literary diary covering the years 1753-78. His Shem ha-Gedolim contains 1300 brief biographies.
