MOSES BEN JACOB OF COUCY

   French scholar. An itinerant preacher, he began his ministry in Spain in 1236, where he preached sermons that attracted a huge audience. Later he visited other countries, and participated in the Disputation of Paris in 1240. His Sepher Mitzvot Gadol (also known as Semag) contains the oral law presented as groups of positive and negative commandments. His other writings include the Tosaphot Yeshanim and a commentary on the Torah.
